Top Landscape Architecture and Design students will meet with secondary students and teachers and community leaders to design an engaging outdoor learning environment that will help stem the growing disconnect between people and nature.
For this design challenge, Lifescape has partnered with Come Alive Outside, a 501c3 that works towards people living healthier lives outside, and The Kitchen Community, a 501c3 non-profit an organization that has constructed over 50 Learning Gardens here in Colorado to help create community through food.
During the three-day design charrette, everyone will create their initial concepts for an outdoor learning environment that will be constructed at Denver’s PREP Academy, located just two blocks north of City Park. The design must create a Certified Wildlife Habitat while effectively managing and utilizing rainwater. Lifescape designers and landscape architects will mentor the students during the design phase to help foster creative ideas while keeping within the design restraints and managing the project budget.
The college students will conduct a site analysis, brainstorm with idea sharing and breakout sessions before creating presentations that will be displayed to parents, teachers and students on Saturday morning.
The teams will return home and will create a complete submission package with a winner to be announced on December 19 and the construction to be completed by the winter and spring of 2017.
