One of our favorite ways to give back during the holiday season is to adopt a family in need, and we’re grateful to be able to sponsor a local family this year through the Tennyson Center for Children.
What is the Tennyson Center for Children?
The Tennyson Center for Children is committed to giving Colorado children that have experienced abuse, neglect, or trauma a second chance. For more than a century, this local non-profit organization has been providing children and families with healing through its community-based, school, and residential programs.
What is Operation Santa?
Because many of the families served don’t have the financial means to give gifts during the holidays, the Tennyson Center for Children hosts Operation Santa each year. By participating in Operation Santa, local businesses and members of the Denver community adopt a family and help fulfill their holiday wishlists. Each child in the family will receive three gifts, and the adults will receive a family gift or help with needs they may have.
The Tennyson Center for Children offers several opportunities to get involved with Operation Santa. Adopting a cottage, classroom, or program is a way that you can keep Operation Santa around throughout the year, and the ways that you can help will be customized to your desired giving level. Contact the Tennyson Center for Children to learn more!
We can honestly say that our holiday season has become a little brighter by being able to participate in Operation Santa this year. Please contact us at Lifescape Colorado to learn more about how you can get involved with this wonderful local non-profit.

When it comes to creating an exceptional landscape, some of the first features that come to mind are plants, trees, shrubs, and hardscapes. However, lighting also plays an integral role in enhancing the ambiance and functionality of your outdoor spaces. We incorporate many of the design principles from our landscapes into our lighting designs, such as layering, points of interest, and themes.
How Lighting Enhances Outdoor Ambiance
Exterior lighting should go beyond a bulb by the front door. The strategic placement of outdoor lighting will create a mood, enhance landscape features like prominent trees or hardscapes, and increase the functionality of your space. Lighting can create a peaceful, zen-like oasis or an energizing entertainment space. It helps extend outdoor living and entertaining long after the sun goes down and increases safety by illuminating dark areas, stairs and walkways.
Energy-saving Outdoor Lighting
Our lighting designers use a variety of low voltage outdoor lighting solutions to illuminate a landscape. Being green-friendly and focused on sustainability, we use LED lighting fixtures as they’re energy efficient, provide warm white light and come in many designs. New low voltage lighting transformers have the technology to offer zoning features, colored lights and easier control capability. We can even connect everything to your home automation system or smart phone.
Add beauty, value, security and functionality
- Layer lighting. Just as we use a variety of layers and textures with your landscape design, our lighting designers suggest combining low lights, spotlights, overhead lights and water feature lighting. This layering effect will add visual interest and bring your landscape alive at night.
- Illuminate pathways and stairs. Lighting pathways and stairs help create a point of interest in your landscape and improve safety after dark. If you’re considering adding a patio or pathway to your landscape, it’s smart to take outdoor lighting into consideration at the beginning to create a seamless look.
- Add overhead lighting. Create a magical outdoor space by moon lighting or uplighting. Our designers can help you choose a lighting solution that will compliment your unique outdoor space and enhance outdoor ambiance and entertaining.

The days are getting shorter and with holidays just around the corner, it’s already time to start thinking about adding festive holiday lighting to your landscape. Here are some suggestions:
Get started early.
Being proactive with your holiday lighting will ensure that your home and landscape offers a welcoming glow to visiting family and friends. Now is the time to line up a professional designer or installer so that you can stay ahead of the seasonal rush and leave time for the other busy aspects of the holiday season.
Safety comes first.
Some intrepid homeowners may enjoy the annual ritual of risking life and limb to hang their own holiday lighting, but for the rest of us it’s best to leave that to the pros. Engage installers with experience in exterior illumination, a good understanding of the dangers of working with electricity and proven safety procedures for working on roofs, tall ladders and in trees.
Experienced and reputable professionals
The Lifescape team offers years of experience in handling large-scale holiday lighting projects. Our professionals have established safety practices and work year round installing exterior lighting and working with tall trees, so when the holidays come, we’re always ready to go. We even install the holiday lights at the Governor’s Mansion – including the famous Millennial Tree!
Use high quality low voltage LED lighting.
Lifescape is a Sustainable Landscape Charter Partner with the Association of Landscape Contractors of Colorado, and the use of LED low voltage lighting is part of our commitment to being a green-friendly company. High quality LED systems are safer to install and maintain, use less energy and are more cost-effective for homeowners in the long term.

As our temperatures in Colorado begin to cool down, the change in seasons presents the perfect opportunity for a variety of landscape updates and installations. Here are a few ideas that will enhance your outdoor experience this fall and in the months to come:
Here are several ways that our team at Lifescape Colorado can help you plan a colorful spring landscape:
Plants, trees, and bulbs
Fall is the ideal time to plant bulbs as the soil is still warm and workable. Plant bulbs before the first freeze arrives, which is historically mid-October in Denver. Planting in the fall will give bulbs an opportunity to establish a healthy root system for your spring landscape. Your landscape designer will help you determine the optimal locations in your yard where tulips, daffodils, and other colorful spring flowers will thrive.
Hardscape and Pavers for walkways and patios
As your plants and flowers begin to be less of a focus during the cooler months, fall is the perfect time to consider adding to or upgrading hardscape, replacing cracked or uninteresting pavement with beautiful, textural pavers or adding a patio or outdoor living area. By getting started now, you’ll likely avoid the spring rush that can often slow down getting your project scheduled.
Fireplaces, Fire Pits and Fire Bowls
Adding a fireplace, unique fire bowl or fire pit will turn your outdoor living area into a year-round space for relaxing and entertaining. As the evening temperatures dip, you’ll still be able to enjoy the outdoor beauty that Colorado offers this time of year. Whatever your style is, the team at Lifescape Colorado will help create a beautiful, functional design that fits your lifestyle and landscape.
As daylight hours shorten, now is the perfect time to add visually dramatic, high-tech landscape lighting. Allow your home and landscape to stand out beautifully and extend opportunities for outdoor living and entertaining after dark. Enhance security and highlight points of interest throughout your landscape with high quality, low voltage LED fixtures that allow for greater sustainability and longevity.
